By offsetting their unavoidable carbon emissions, individuals and businesses can take responsibility and contribute to global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and limit the impacts of of climate change. Climate protection projects compensate carbon emissions by supporting projects which avoid or store carbon. A carbon footprint which takes place at one place is being offset by a climate protection project which saves the same amount of carbon (CO₂) at another place. Always try to avoid a carbon footprint, reduce your carbon footprint and offset the balance. Do not use carbon credits as a justification for delaying the necessary systemic reforms to our energy generation and consumption. Ultimately, we must significantly reduce our emissions in order to address the urgent issue of climate change.
